What is an example of rear-ended?

When a car gets hit from behind by another car, that is an instance of getting rear-ended. This frequently happens when the vehicle behind it doesn't keep a safe distance or can't stop in time. Consider a situation where a car is stopped at a red light and an oncoming car unexpectedly fails to halt in time, crashing into the back of the stationary car. Rear-end collisions and being rear-ended are terms used to describe this hit from behind.
